Discovering & Supporting Young British Talent
For the first time in fashion history, a national campaign to recruit the undiscovered hottest design talent in Great Britain, has been created. It is open to all members of the British public over 18, whether they have formal fashion training or are just talented. Fashion Fringe comes at an important time in British Fashion. Whilst Britain has become renowned for its iconoclastic originality, limited technical and financial support for new designers has led to manufacturing difficulties which in turn has resulted in a lack of interest from the world's leading buyers. This sees many British designers heading overseas to the safe walls of long-established fashion houses. Fashion Fringe aims to break this cycle and re-energise British fashion by offering the winning aspiring designer £100,000 worth of support in year 1 and then on-going business and technical advice. This differentiates Fashion Fringe as the most important British fashion landmark in years - subsequently reviving Britain as a powerhouse of cutting edge design and creativity. Colin McDowell, fashion authority and Senior Fashion Writer for the Sunday Times Style is spearheading the project, which is organised by IMG and supported by Red Bull. The showcase event will take place on the last night of London Fashion Week in September 2004.
